The Problem With 24 Hour News

Networks like CNN and MSNBC have the objective to report on the news all 24 hours of the day. With this responsibility comes lots of exaggerated stories and theories because of the fact that there is so much time and not enough national concerns for these news outlets to report on.

In early 2014 when the Malaysian plane went missing, media outlets dedicated countless hours coming up with ridiculous theories and ideas for what could have possibly happened to this plane. While the missing plane was a concerning and important news story, the media almost neglected the other issues going on in the world and exclusively reported on this incident. The media is supposed to act in the public interest, however by only covering the plane story, they were not doing their job. Americans were not effected by the plane story but the news would constantly be discussing this issue.

The problem with the media is that they are more concerned with their ratings than reporting on important news stories that can help and effect Americans. This is the problem with the news media today and in the end it is important that changes are made so that the news can be for the public interest, which is their ultimate purpose.
